On , Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo posted an image on his Instagram of him posing with a statue of Buddha. The problem? His foot was on the base. Cue the screeching outrage. Continue reading “What makes religious identity different?”
I published the very first post on this new blog: “The cowardly, lazy notion that liberalism cannot tolerate dissent”. The immediate inspiration was a comment on Canadian Atheist, but it was a response to an attitude I’d seen seen widely expressed for some time. The most widely noted example was Donald Trump’s proposal for
extreme vetting of immigrants, but I deliberately avoided citing his particular example because he’s well on his way to becoming the star of the next iteration of Godwin’s Law. Besides, I thought, that kind of wacky “politics” is an American thing; my blog focuses on Canada, and we don’t have that kind of nonsense in Canadian politics. Well…. No big surprise there; bigots are hardly known having particularly well-thought-out ideologies. Or being intelligent in general – one even had to resort to calling me a “wife-beater”. For simple attempts at deflecting criticism, like complaining that the word “Islamophobia” can be misused, I prefer to respond directly in the post’s comments. But there was one apologetic that I felt deserved a little more space. Continue reading “The cowardly, lazy notion that liberalism cannot tolerate dissent”
At long last I’ve finally got my new blog up!
My old blog will probably be available for a while, before finally decaying into archive hell, then eventually vanishing completely.
It will take a while for me to get completely settled in here, so please bear with me!
